About Us

We are Stephen and Rebecca Sciame, a husband-wife team who grew up almost a straight line across the Hudson River from each other, met in college along that same river, and now, for reasons perhaps known only to God, find ourselves raising our family on the outskirts of Buffalo, where we've learned that lake effect snow is very, very real.

Our backgrounds, beyond the bookstore, include Stephen's seemingly endless knowledge and experience as an outdoor educator and a whole lot of years working in NYS Parks and the local YMCA, and Rebecca's years working in higher education and a lifelong love of cozy stories and color coordinating every excel spreadsheet to cross her path. Stephen favors Terry Pratchett and chapter books; Rebecca leans more towards Jane Austen and picture books. One wanted to be an astronaut as a child, and the other an artist. I'll let you guess who goes with which.

Blue Campfire Bookstore is our little family's independent children’s bookstore that combines everything above and more. Our selection of new and nostalgic children's books, games, and odds-and-ends are carefully curated to spark imaginations and foster a lifelong curiosity about the world around us. 

Maybe add a bit of whimsy to our daily lives, too. This is very important.
